Do you want to look bigger and leaner?
Why are high testosterone levels important for men?
We all know that the body produces testosterone to promote muscle growth.
As well as muscle growth, higher levels of testosterone make it easier for your body to burn adipose tissue (fat). Increased testosterone will boost your metabolic rate, which increases the energy burned, and thus creates a bigger calorie deficit.
Researchers at the University of Medicine and Science found that fluctuations of testosterone within the physiological normal range had significant effects on body fat percentage.
The higher the testosterone levels, the leaner subjects were. The lower the testosterone levels, the fatter they were. When researchers decreased certain subjects’ testosterone levels from the baseline average of 600 ng/dl to around 300 ng/dl, they saw a 36% increase in fat mass.
So, how can we enhance our testosterone levels through the food we eat?
1. Oysters, shellfish, beef, spinach and cashew nuts.
These are all rich in Zinc which boosts testosterone production.
2. Salmon, sardines, walnuts and seeds.
High in Omega 3 fats. These foods aid fat loss, increase testosterone levels and increase energy levels.
3. Brazil nuts, crab and liver.
These foods are rich in selenium, which enhances testosterone production.
4. Cheese, Beef, Chicken, nuts, seafood and fish.
Leucine is found in these foods, which is an important amino acid for enhancing male hormones.
5. Eggs, Kale, sprouts, prunes and broccoli.
These foods are high in Vitamin K, a potent testosterone booster.
6. Kale, cauliflower, watercress, mushrooms, turmeric and chillies.
These foods inhibit oestrogen production and the antioxidants help to boost your energy levels in your cells.
NUTRITION TIP: Snack on nuts in between meals. Despite being high in fat, nuts are incredibly nutritious and healthy. They are loaded with magnesium, vitamin E, fibre and various other nutrients.
